LICENSED VETERINARY TECHNICIAN

Eastown Veterinary Clinic is hiring a Licensed Veterinary Technician. We are an established animal hospital caring for dogs and cats, located in Grand Rapids, MI. If you love animals and are committed to setting the bar for comprehensive pet care in our community, as well as providing a stellar client and patient experience, then we want to talk to you about joining our team! The ideal candidate will be willing to work three shifts per week that run 10-11 hours in a day (with an hour break for lunch), with availability to work on the weekend at least once a month.

Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Run anesthesia for surgical and dental patients
  • Assist the Veterinarian with routine patient appointments, surgical procedures, and dental procedures
  • Perform routine procedures; i.e. anal gland expressions, blood draws and nail trims
  • Collect and preserve laboratory samples that must be shipped offsite for more comprehensive testing
  • Perform routine and dental radiographs
  • Coordinate diagnostics and treatments for multiple outpatient doctors
  • Collaborate with Veterinarians to carry out Treatment Compliance plans for patients
  • Ensure all surgical equipment is properly sterilized and stored
  • Communicate to and educate clients in regards to our services/offerings, treatment plans, estimates and invoices
  • Perform dental cleaning and charting
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Must possess a valid Veterinary Technician license in good standing with the state of Michigan
  • Minimum of 18 years old
  • Ability to: lift and carry animals and equipment up to 50 lbs., walk or stand for extended periods of time, frequently work in a bent position, come in contact with peanut butter
  • Recent graduates or experienced technicians are welcome to apply

  • 2+ years experience working with animals and animal restraint (1+ years experience working as a Veterinary Exam Assistant preferred)

  • Cultivate positive relationships with clients and their animals through effective communication and excellent medical record keeping
  • Examine and treat dogs and cats by appointment and occasionally in work-in/emergency setting
  • Prioritize traumatic injuries and serious illnesses, in addition to regularly scheduled wellness appointments, to ensure that all animals receive the care they need in a timely fashion
  • Partner and educate clients on the importance of preventative care; vaccinations, heartworm and flea/tick products, chronic disease management & general treatment plan compliance
  • Perform routine surgeries and dental procedures
