Colleen

ColleenClient Patient Coordinator

EVC team member since April 2024. Her coworkers describe her as empathetic, kind, and thorough.

Colleen started in vet med in high school at her local clinic. She soon realized it was her passion. She worked in emergency medicine for about 6 years before coming to EVC. She spent about 2 years in the Utah desert working at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, where she cultivated her love for pets, especially cats, with special needs and chronic conditions. After taking on a hospice foster cat who changed her life, Colleen’s dream is to create a sanctuary for elderly cats and those with disabilities where they can live their life to the fullest.

Amanda

AmandaClient Patient Coordinator

EVC team member since October 2023. Her coworkers describe her as assertive, confident, and honest.

Amanda began her veterinary career working in an emergency clinic over the summer of 2020. Around this time, she developed her skills in TNR (trap, neuter/spay, release) and her love for rescuing animals blossomed. Amanda has a soft spot in her heart for feral cats, spending much of her free time caring for the stray population and educating others on the severity of this issue. When she’s not helping stray cats, she enjoys hanging out with her own cats (Uriel, Abaddon, and Ignatius), reading, and hitting up local breweries. Although she considers herself a crazy cat lady, she dreams of one day rescuing a pit bull!

Ashley

AshleyClient Patient Coordinator

EVC team member since May 2025. Ashley’s coworkers describe her as witty, outgoing, and resilient.

Ashley realized she wanted to be in vet med since age 3, inspired by her love for her family’s dog. While in college at Grand Valley State University, she started working at Camp Bow Wow in Hudsonville, which confirmed she wanted to work with dogs full-time. She graduated with a Bachelor’s in Biology and then started at a vet clinic in Byron Center. She soon started a Master’s program for Applied Animal Welfare and Behavior after developing a love for training. She’d like to one day work with reactive dogs to overcome their triggers and train therapy/service dogs.

Veterinarians

Dr. Lynn Happel

Dr-HappelDVM
Owner & Veterinarian

Owner & founder of EVC. Her coworkers describe her as resilient, funny, and a visionary.

Dr. Lynn Happel graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. She then worked as an associate for small animal practices in Muskegon and Grand Rapids before opening a clinic of her own in Grand Rapids in 2011. Dr. Happel completed specialized dentistry training with the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC) and has been utilizing this training in practice for over a decade. She is one of the few dentistry experts in Michigan and volunteers her expertise at John Ball Zoo as needed. When she is not busy performing the work she loves, she spends quality time with her husband and two sons, riding horses, or cuddling with her pets.

Dr. Meghan Swayman

Dr-SwaymanDVM
Medical Director & Veterinarian

EVC team member since February 2020. Her coworkers describe her as driven, knowledgeable, and approachable.

Dr. Swayman started at Eastown Veterinary Clinic in February 2020 and became our Medical Director in January 2023. She loves connecting with clients and helping ensure a long, happy life with their beloved pets. Meeting a new puppy or kitten with their new family and following that pet and their family as they grow and bond together through the years is priceless!

At home, she has one dog, Rue, a 9-year-old Rat Terrier that she and her family adopted in 2016. Rue is sweet and snuggly and likes to bark at anything that moves – in true terrier fashion! She loves spending time with her two kids, Ella and Ryan, and her husband, Keith. They play many games together, travel for soccer and flag football games, and enjoy time at their family cottage in Northern Michigan. She is an avid reader, loves to run and hike, and is working on improving her French!

Veterinary medicine has always been a part of Dr. Swayman’s life. Both her grandfather and father were veterinarians. She fondly remembers “helping” at her dad’s clinic and riding in his truck to numerous farm calls as a child.

After studying engineering at Purdue University as an undergrad, she attended Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine – following in her father’s footsteps – and graduated in 2008 with her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. She has since found a love for practicing small animal medicine.

Dr. Ashley Tittle

Ashley-TittleDVM

She loves the day-to-day challenges veterinary medicine provides and is passionate about “head-scratcher” cases. Being a part of building and facilitating the health and bond between owners and their pets has been a dream since she was nine years old.

When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Ryan, her dogs, Ellie and Rylee, and her cat, Sheldon. Dr. Tittle also enjoys working with her horse, Lyon, at the barn and competing in 3-day eventing.

Dr. Kathleen Grace

Kathleen-GraceDVM
Veterinarian

EVC team member since September 2023. Her coworkers describe her as attentive, compassionate, and patient.

Dr. Kathleen Grace grew up along the Lake Michigan coast in Norton Shores. She was inspired to become a veterinarian by her family’s loving and loyal Golden Retrievers. A lifelong bookworm, Dr. Grace earned her Bachelor’s in English at the University of Michigan before splitting her allegiance and attending Michigan State University for veterinary school. Seeking a change in scenery, Dr. Grace and her husband Ryan moved to the Charlotte, North Carolina area for four years after graduation, where they enjoyed their time meeting new friends and enjoying the beauty that North Carolina had to offer. Dr. Grace and her family moved back to the Michigan area to be near family in the summer of 2023, joining the team at Eastown Veterinary Clinic shortly after!

General practice suits Dr. Grace well because she loves many aspects of small animal medicine. In particular, she enjoys being able to work hand-in-hand with families dealing with chronic illnesses. She recognizes that the foundation of caring for our patients is a solid relationship with their owners and is excited to work together to achieve the best outcome for your loved ones!

Dr. Grace resides in Norton Shores with her husband, Ryan; daughter, Noelle; dog, Ferris; and cats, Sloane and Cameron. In her free time, she enjoys distance running, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

Dr. Chabin graduated from Michigan State University. Originally from Las Vegas, NV, she moved to Michigan to attend veterinary school and fell in love with the beauty of the state and its people. She chose veterinary medicine for the often challenging aspect of treating those who can’t speak for themselves. Dr. Chabin earned her certificate in veterinary medical acupuncture and has a passion for helping your furry family members lead a comfortable life for as long as possible. In her free time, she enjoys visiting the multitude of state parks that Michigan has to offer, yoga, and spending time with her family.

Fomite

FomiteCEO, Chief Entertainment Officer

EVC team member since January 2024. His coworkers describe him as playful, charming, and an instigator.

Mite is one of the clinic kitties that we adopted! As CEO, his focus has been to entertain us with his antics, which he has perfected. This little boy is a social butterfly, wanting cuddles and attention at all times. He’s a quick learner and even practices tricks with Dr. Tittle. He’s a natural-born performer. In fact, you may recognize him from our TikTok that went viral in 2025!

Although he takes his job very seriously, he does have a small amount of free time. His hobbies include knocking things over, begging for EVERYONE’s food, collecting sticky notes, and taking things that don’t belong to him.

Vector

VectorCHO, Chief Happiness Officer

EVC team member since January 2024. Her coworkers describe her as poised, photogenic, and a troublemaker.

We adopted V in 2024, and she’s been with us ever since! Her main priority as our CHO is to bring joy to her coworkers. She loves to chirp at light reflections and possibly ghosts, and we love to watch her do it. Although V is a little more reserved than her brother, she has a fierce loyalty to her coworkers to the point of shunning any visitors. Although a bummer for our visitors, it makes us feel pretty special!

You can usually catch her sunbathing or trying to tame her fluff, but she also finds joy in shaking us down for food, fitting her body into small objects, and treasure hunting (getting into the trash).

Marissa

MarissaLVN Operations Manager

Marissa was inspired to join Vetmed when her childhood dog passed away from osteosarcoma. She developed a longing to understand and a dedication to advocating for animals who could be suffering. Marissa’s passion for helping animals pushed her through tech school in San Diego while raising two very young children. She even took her final exam while in labor—one of her proudest achievements!

After years of working as a nurse in vet med, she realized this field struggles with compassion fatigue, burnout, and overall mental wellness. She recognizes this field is full of empathetic healers working long hours, saying goodbye to patients they love, and very often getting little recognition. Her career path has since evolved – she’s now focused on healing the healers. She’s working to obtain her Master’s in Social Work, focusing on Veterinary Social Work. She hopes to educate our healers on healthy leadership, effective communication, emotional intelligence, and skills to maintain a mentally healthy work and home life!

Brandy

BrandyLVN Facility/Regulatory Manager & Sonographer

Brandy graduated from MSU’s Vet Tech Program in 2012 with her Bachelor of Science in veterinary nursing, where she took an interest in large animal anesthesia and diagnostic imaging. After graduating, Brandy worked in Kentucky performing MRIs before deciding to stay in Michigan. She is a diligent, hardworking individual and continues to grow her passion for advanced diagnostic imaging, particularly ultrasound.

She is most passionate about giving our patients a voice in their health. This has driven her passion for advanced diagnostics and imaging, because our patients cannot tell us what hurts. Some problems aren’t even evident yet. A lot of times, when we are running routine diagnostics, we find unexpected things. Catching things early often leads to better outcomes.

Outside of Eastown Veterinary Clinic, Brandy owns and operates Blue Gables Homestead – Whiskered Memories, LLC with her husband, Jeremy, and their daughter, Evaline. She enjoys being on the homestead with her many critters, working towards their self-sustainability, and having fun while doing it!

Lucy

Lucy graduated from Michigan State University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. After working in the animal field for a few years, she chose to attend Baker College of Muskegon in 2016 to obtain her Associate’s in Veterinary Technology. Since childhood, she has had a passion for helping animals in need, and this is where she finds her purpose today. She finds pride in the rewarding feeling of being able to provide each owner and their pet with the individualized care they need. She really enjoys physical rehabilitation and hopes to pursue this course further in the future! Her hobbies include reading, running, and spending time with family at her cottage on Higgins Lake.

Megan

MeganLVN

Megan’s journey in animal care began at a county animal shelter, where she started as a volunteer and eventually became a staff member. There, she discovered her deep love for caring for animals and decided to turn that passion into a career. She graduated from Baker College in 2017 and began working as a licensed veterinary nurse at an animal sanctuary. While there, she developed a strong foundation in fear-free handling and compassionate care. While she continues to work in and love shelter medicine, she’s also sought new veterinary medicine opportunities to broaden her skills and knowledge, which brought her to EVC! She’s especially passionate about making every pet feel safe and comfortable at the clinic and strongly advocates for fear-free practices in every aspect of care.

Hope

HopeLVN

Hope chose to pursue a career in vet med because she strives to be a voice for the voiceless, helping not only the patient but the people who love them. She’s had this passion since she was a child.
